about Archway
Be you with purpose
Here’s something most leadership programs won’t tell you: you don’t have to be a certain type of person to be a great leader. You don’t need to be the loudest in the room, the most polished speaker, or a born extrovert. You just need to be you — and know how to channel that authentically.
That’s what Archway is all about.
Our Mission
We’re here to cultivate authentic leadership and cohesive teams by fostering positive communication and building strong, high-quality relationships. We want to help you reduce turnover, improve performance, and accelerate your career by becoming a leader people actually want to follow.
What We do
Archway is a leadership development company based in Utah. We offer online, on-demand courses and live virtual training designed to help real people — not just executives — become more effective, confident leaders.
Our training covers the things that actually make leadership work: how to build genuine relationships with your team, how to communicate clearly, how to earn trust and give respect, and how to adapt your style depending on who you’re leading. No fluff, no corporate buzzword bingo. Just practical, grounded skills you can use starting today.
What Makes Us Different
Most leadership training is built around a specific mold. The charismatic CEO. The alpha personality. The person who seemed destined to lead from day one.
We think that's a problem.
At Archway, our instructors aren’t people for whom leadership came naturally. They’re people who struggled, made mistakes, had career setbacks, and figured it out anyway. That’s not a weakness — it’s exactly why they can teach it. They know what it actually feels like to be in the middle of a hard situation, trying to figure out what to do next.
We also believe leadership doesn’t have to be serious all the time. Our approach is straightforward, a little goofy when it needs to be, and always human. Because the best leaders usually are.
What We Stand For
- Integrity: We uphold the highest standards of honesty and ethical behavior in all our interactions.
- Creativity: We don’t live in boxes. We embrace creativity and seek unique solutions.
- Genuineness and Authenticity: We believe in being who we are and accepting others for who they are. We promote that “being you” is essential to long term success.
- Continuous Improvement: We regularly seek ways to improve processes, products, and services.
- Empowerment: We believe in empowering individuals to realize their full potential. Remove any doubt that you can do this, as you are. No innate superpowers necessary.
- Objectivity: We provide unbiased advice and analysis based on data and facts.
- Engaging and Accessible: We engage serious issues by using plain language, keeping things relatable, and meeting people where they are. There is no “stuffiness” or “self-importance,” just the sharing of knowledge which we should all have access to.
Ian Cleave
Ian Cleave is the founder of Archway Development, and leadership didn’t come easily to him which is exactly why he can teach it.
Ian grew up in Western Washington and now lives near Salt Lake City, Utah. His background is about as varied as it gets: a BS in Civil Engineering from Washington State University, a JD from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, service as an officer in the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps, time practicing as an attorney, and most recently working at the University of Utah, and running veteran and military student support programs at Westminster University.
Leadership showed up in all of it. And so did the learning curve.
As a junior officer, Ian was thrown into leadership roles before he felt ready. He had great leaders who inspired him and poor ones who taught him just as much. What he noticed over time was that the leaders he gravitated toward — and the moments where he was most effective himself — had one thing in common: authenticity. The best leaders weren’t performing a role. They were just genuinely themselves.
After years of experience, observation, and study, Ian built a leadership philosophy around that idea. He calls it Be You With Purpose and Archway is how he shares it.
Welcome. You’re in the right place.
